Free video class on how to take good photos. In this step-by-step online guide to photography, learn basic photography tips and techniques, including how to use framing, how to take good pictures, candid photography, head shots and poses, and other photography lessons. There are 15 videos in this series and all are about 1 minute. Not a lot of information here and I wouldn’t class this as intermediate. It is definitely beginner area, but this is my opinion. Check it out for yourself, maybe something here for you.

A series of short Expert Village video lessons examining 35mm photography. This series is very, very basic with videos of a couple of minutes duration each lesson. Can’t criticize this as this may be what some people are looking for, the absolute basics in a small package. There may be some bits of information here that is informative. Again, it’s free so worth a look.

Kodak has a Tips and Project Center, rather than an actual photo course. It is heavily commercial as you would expect, but again, it is free information if you are still looking for free online photography courses. It is fairly basic but does cover many areas and provides many photographs to illustrate the point. Good browsing material.

There is a lot of information here, and some might find this a problem. Nothing in the way of illustrations or photographs. However if you are looking for information and not inspiration, there maybe something here for you. Also can’t be too critical if it’s free! Another of the few free online photography courses available.

There is sufficient (free) information on offer here to keep you occupied for some time. Another of the few free online photography courses available. Please post if you find some more.

Here is their intro paragraph:

The last month or so we’ve added so many digital photography tutorials that I thought it was important to make a page that pulls them all together. I guess it can be thought of as a free online digital photography course. The technical side of the photography tutorials are useful for those with SLR digital cameras. For example, what is shutter speed, what’s the difference between a fast or slow lens, and bulb modes explained. However lessons that discuss composition tips, lomography and travel photography could suit everyone, including those with compact point and shoot cameras. I will be adding tutorials to this free photography course weekly so check back often.

Here is a 10 week free online photography course on using Photoshop. Although developed for CS4 they say anyone using Photoshop of any flavor can learn from it. I don’t really know anything more about it but I did sign up for it…. hey… free is good!

Again, I cannot recommend this course, one of the few free online photography courses, as I haven’t completed it. But on the outside, it seems to have all the basics there. It is well constructed with plenty of photographic and diagrammatic examples and illustrations. Importantly, it gets you going, providing homework with every topic.

I cannot recommend this – one of the few free online photography courses available – as I haven’t enrolled, but it’s free, so what can you lose?

Here’s their blurb:

Consumer-oriented digital cameras offer a whole new set of features not found in film-based cameras, as well as new opportunities to edit and modify images. After explaining how digital cameras work and what to look for when buying one, this online photography course clarifies features like image size and compression, white balance, and special shooting modes. You’ll also learn how to transfer digital files to your computer, edit them using photo editing software, print them, and burn them to CDs.
